How to compare loan repayment costs in Nigeria

Compare Nigeria loan offers using cash disbursed, fees, instalments and total repayment, with a simple illustrative example.

The headline loan amount is not always the cash you receive or the amount you repay. To compare Nigeria loan offers fairly, write down the disbursed amount, every fee, the due dates and the total amount due. Use the final written quote, because advertised ranges and personal terms can differ.

Start with cash received

If one offer says “₦100,000 loan” but deducts a ₦5,000 fee before disbursement, you receive ₦95,000. If the agreement still requires ₦110,000 back, your cost relative to cash received is ₦15,000. This is an illustrative arithmetic example, not a CashX or bank quote and not an APR calculation.

Compare the whole repayment schedule

For instalment loans, add every payment. Four payments of ₦30,000 total ₦120,000; twelve payments of ₦12,000 total ₦144,000. The smaller monthly amount may be easier to budget but can cost more in total. Dates matter too: a payment due before your income arrives may create a late charge. Ask the provider for the schedule and all fees in writing.

Check late and early repayment

Read how missed payments, extensions and early settlement change the total. CashX’s terms say fees and total repayment are disclosed in its individual agreement. Its public site also describes late-payment consequences. A different lender or bank may use different rules; do not copy one provider’s figures to another.

A short comparison checklist

  1. Use the same cash need and a comparable term.
  2. Confirm the legal lender and whether the quote is personal.
  3. Record cash disbursed, interest basis, every fee and total repayable.
  4. Review dates and late-payment consequences.
  5. Keep the written quote for later reference.
